month of gratitude

today i am grateful for good deals.

i had some birthday money and i had heard old navy was having a sale on their outerwear, so i thought i would go check it out. i didn't end up getting a new coat, but i did find some sweet stuff from the clearance section. i got one shirt for .97! ninety-seven cents!!! i felt so awesome about that.

anyway, i'm grateful i could find some good deals since money doesn't grow on trees!

month of gratitude

today i am grateful it is friday.

i started my new job on wednesday, so i worked 3 days this week.

when i was hired on, it was as part-time but my first day they told me that winter is their busy season and so i was okay to work full time for now, until it slows down if i wanted. of course i said i did, because any extra money is great right now.

so i've worked three full days... and i'm exhausted. ha! i've forgotten how exhausting it can be to work full time! i know... pathetic, right? it's just... i haven't worked in over 3 months. my days were leisurely and all my own during that time. i was able to stay on top of laundry, dishes, cleaning, crafting, my photography, errands ... and since wednesday, i haven't done any dishes, any laundry, any cleaning, any crafting, any photography, or any errands.

but i'm so glad that i have a good reason. that i have a job, finally. FINALLY! but i'm also glad its friday, and i get to now enjoy a work-free weekend!

month of gratitude

today I am grateful for modern medicine and good doctors.

Vince has just been getting worse and worse as the week has gone by so we took him back to insta-care tonight. We ended up being there forever, just waiting for the doctor...we had been seen by the nurse and after she took us back to the room, we ended up waiting in there an entire hour :( No fun, especially for Vince who was feverish and freezing.

Eventually, the doctor did come in. She was great, a total no-nonsense girl who cut straight to the chase. She asked vince if he had any of the following symptoms and then listed 11 symptoms -- Vince had 10 of them! She said since, especially from back in the spring, she had seen so many cases of the swine flu she was practically 100% sure that's what he has.

Now, unless you fit a certain group type (elderly, weak immune system, pregnant, etc) they won't prescribe you the medicine for H1N1 unless the patient strongly requests it. Which V did because he has no more paid time off until January 1, 2010. So, we can't afford for him to miss too many days unpaid. She told us the medicine should hopefully start to help within the first 24 hours, but if not he was quarantined another 24 hours and so on as the days go by. She also prescribed him some antibiotics to help fight off any other infections
So we're keeping our fingers crossed!

month of gratitude

today i am grateful that i am done with the job search.

as i mentioned, i received a job offer this morning and i accepted. it's strange to be done looking but i'm excited. i am so nervous too. i haven't worked in over 3 months! it's a part time job, so at least its not like i'm being thrown full force back into working. i think i'd die from exhaustion. pathetic, no? but really... it will be nice to be working again, and still have the energy to come home and clean, cook, do laundry, craft, etc.

since this is just a part time job, i'm considering maybe working another part time job as well, as least for the holiday season at maybe a retail store. but we'll see. like i mentioned before, they said they would be willing to let me work a little more than part time right now just because they are so busy... so, we will just have to wait and see what happens.

eee! i hope tomorrow goes well!

*****

and on a side note -- this afternoon i went out to our car (our hyundai elantra) to go to the grocery store to pick up some medicine for V, and it wouldn't start. um, hello. not good! tomorrow vince + i both actually need a car (which we haven't needed the last 3 months) so we can't have one of them not working! so, to go to the store i took our CR-V and told vince when i got back about the elantra.

we ended up jump starting it, and as of now *fingers crossed* its running and all will be well tomorrow in the morning when we both head off to work. could have been a disaster, but turned out okay. crisis averted!

what a day!

so, vince is still sick... he's home again from work and trying to get some sleep. he looks miserable and it breaks my heart.

however, there is a bright side to this day.

i got a call this morning from a place i interviewed at a few weeks ago, they offered me a job! it's part time, but she said it is their busy season and so i can work more hours if i want. it's an office assistant type job, and the ladies i will work with seem really nice... so, we'll see it goes. i go in tomorrow, and i will set up my schedule then. i'm excited, and glad that for now this process is over.

my thoughts on The Time Travelers Wife

i just finished reading The Time Travelers Wife last night and i just wanted to write out my thoughts about it. if you haven't read it but plan on reading it, then you might not want to continue as i'm going to be talking about the ending...

i was torn with this book, part of me really liked it. but the other part didn't know what to think.

what i liked: i came to really love the characters. i thought clare was lovely, and faithful and strong. i also liked henry, although i just felt so sad for him that he didn't get to ever have a normal life. i was sucked in, always wanting to know what would become of clare and henry, always trying to put the pieces of their story together. i enjoyed their connection. i thought it was well written, and a beautiful love story.

what i didn't like: frankly, i was confused at times with all the jumping around in time. it was hard to keep things straight sometimes. i was hoping that at the end, they'd be able to change something and henry wouldn't have to die so young. i felt really sad that clare had to spend her whole life waiting for him. i didn't think it was fair that she had to live her adult life without him, and that alba was able to see him several times after his death and not clare (until the very end).

so, have you read it? what were your thoughts? favorite parts? least favorite parts?

month of gratitude

today i am grateful for paid time off.

vince is sick today, and stayed home from work.
with me still not having a job, the only way he
would be able to miss a day of work is
if he has paid time off -- which thankfully he has.
it's such a little thing, but means a lot to us right now.

now vince, just get better! i feel so sad when you are sick!

month of gratitude

today i am grateful for a wonderful husband who makes me feel beautiful.

as i've mentioned before, lately i just don't like how i look. i've gained a lot of wait over the last few years and i hate it. yet, i can't get up enough umph to do anything about it. i know, i'm lame.

so while i feel unattractive and not pretty, vince makes me feel like i am pretty and attractive. today he made me feel beautiful... and i hadn't felt like that in a long time. all he has to do is look at me, and i know he thinks i'm pretty. i just feel so lucky to have him, because when he gave me that look today it made me feel really good about myself. he's the best.

i don't know if i am glad or not i did this again this year... i'm at an un-happy weight and don't necessarily love me in photos. plus, we still have lots of clothes packed away + we suck when we do laundry because we pretty much just don't put that stuff away and live out of baskets (sorry, long run on sentence...), which made it hard to pick out new outfits each day. and, i don't love my hair these days... it is at that annoying in between length. so... i dunno.

but i guess its nice to have an entire months worth of documentation of what i look like. maybe next time i will switch this up and do it in a different month and season, maybe in the spring? or summer? maybe i should do it 4 months a year? ha, that would get old, FAST! hehe! anyway... thanks for sticking around through this month, even though i rarely posted besides my outfits. here is to november + no more daily outfit photos!

november, how i love thee.

i discovered something!

penn state's head coach, joe paterno,
looks just like carl fredrickson from the movie Up.
i am convinced the creator of Up is a big penn state fan,
and made the main character carl look just like joe.

absolutely convinced.
